Medicare Advantage (Part C)

An “all in one” alternative to Original Medicare offered by Medicare approved private companies. Includes Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) and usually includes Part D (prescriptions). If you join a Medicare Advantage plan, you still have Medicare.

Medicare Supplements (Medigap)

Medigap is Medicare Supplement Insurance that is sold by private companies which helps fill in “gaps” in Original Medicare. Original Medicare pays for much, but not all, of the cost for covered health care services and supplies. A Medigap policy can help pay for some of the remaining health care costs like copayments, coinsurance and deductibles.

Prescription Drug Coverage (Part D)

Each plan that offers prescription drug coverage through Medicare Part D must give at least a standard level of coverage set by Medicare. Plans can vary the list (formulary) of prescription drugs they cover and how they place drugs and generics into different tiers on their formularies.

Dual-Eligible Medicaid

If you have Medicare and full Medicaid coverage, most of your health care costs are likely covered. You can get your Medicare coverage through Original Medicare or a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) and your prescription drugs (Part D) covered through Medicare. You’ll automatically qualify for Extra Help paying for your Medicare Part D. Medicaid may still cover some drugs and care that Medicare doesn’t cover.
